Seligman Businesses and the Camino Madre Wind Project

Seligman is a small historic town along Route 66, best known as a stop for tourists traveling between Kingman, Williams, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon (see images below). Most local businesses - restaurants, motels, gift shops, gas stations, and bars - rely heavily on tourism and travelers passing through on the Mother Road. The town’s economy is built on visitors stopping for food, fuel, photos, and Route 66 souvenirs.
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce primarily organizes a few annual events and has historically struggled with consistent meeting attendance. Many residents and business owners have noted that it can be difficult to get people to show up for regular meetings. Although the Seligman Chamber of Commerce serves a valuable function, it is by no means a unified voice for the town.
Triple Oak Power Comes to Town
In 2024, Triple Oak Power attended a Seligman Chamber of Commerce meeting to make a short presentation. They were seeking local support as they applied for permits for MET test towers. According to multiple people who attended, the presentation framed the project as a relatively small number of windmills located far away on private land, with little impact on the town itself. Attendees recall being told the project would bring tax revenue to Yavapai County. There was no mention of the full scale of the project, the inclusion of solar arrays, or up to 300 MW of battery storage. Residents living near Anvil Rock Road and Buck’s Road - residents important to many local businesses - were not identified as being directly affected. Several Seligman businesses were not informed at all about the project. Some were not wanting to get involved, trying to stay clear of any controversies.
Triple Oak later presented a letter of support from the Seligman Chamber of Commerce at a Yavapai County Board of Supervisors meeting in Cottonwood to help secure approval for the MET towers.
Note: It is no coincidence that the subsidiary of Triple Oak Power was named Camino Madre, LLC - which means "Mother Road" in Spanish - referring to Route 66 (the Mother Road)
The Aftermath
Following the public backlash that began after June 2, 2026, many Seligman business owners have become reluctant to appear publicly aligned with the project. Several have expressed that they were caught off guard by the strong community opposition and now feel the original presentation did not fully disclose the scope or proximity of the proposed development.
As a result, a growing number of Seligman businesses have indicated they want to publicly state their opposition to the Camino Madre Wind Project.
Angel Delgadillo - The Angel of Route 66

Interviewer/Guest: "...And so, what do you feel about the a project like those big wind turbines, those windmills?"
Angel Delgadillo: "We don't need them here. We don't want them. They're going to come and change our way of life. And people in the area do not want to change their life. We're satisfied the way it is. And we the people should have something to say about we don't want them. Listen to the people. We the people do not want them. In America, we the people have the right to... We have the right how to spend our time, our money, and there isn't a law that says we can't."
Follow-up (Angel continuing): "In America, we have the right to speak up how we want to spend our time and our money. And we need to speak up... If we speak up, we will be heard. The big wigs, if they hear enough about us, they will join us, also... our representatives. So, start representing me the way we the people want to be represented. Not the way you want us to go."This is framed in the context of preserving Seligman's character, quiet rural life, and historic appeal against outside development/profit-driven changes-echoing his Route 66 advocacy.
